چکیده مقاله

Today, wars are being waged without traditional physical combat. Unlike in the past, modern conflicts are contactless and non-physical, transcending the boundaries of time and space. A cognitive warfare is the war of minds, neuro domain, opinions, perceptions, chaining emotions, etc. A military system works through a highly organized system of Command & Control which serves as the nerve center for the planning, coordination, execution and monitoring of military operations. Being the hub of all activities, it has always been the primary target of belligerents in any conflict. However, in cognitive warfare, the crippling of the Command & Control System achieves far-reaching effects. A comprehensive analysis was conducted to understand Cognitive Warfare and its impacts on the Command & Control System under the ambit of operational and tactical levels. The research method is qualitative while data collection is done through multiple sources including open and literature sources. The study reveals that cognitive warfare significantly impacts Command & Control Systems. In that, it primarily targets the human domain of C2 chain i.e. the decision makers- the commanders and the executing/ monitoring personnel – the staff. These strengths of the Command & Control System like cohesion, unity of effort, balance, boosted morale, effective decision making and above all trust & confidence become its greatest vulnerabilities. Studying the impact of cognitive warfare on Command and Control Vulnerabilities reveals that the human domain of the Command and Control System must possess cognitive endurance to withstand the onslaught of assured cognitive attacks under prevailing warfare.
